One of the other guys can maybe help beyond that with testing, but besides the ground, I'd test on ohm scale of your meter and see what you get between old resistor, and new.Once the cover is off there is an air duct right in front of the blower motor and the resistor, but it isn't necessary to remove that unless you choose to do so for ease of access.
